the absurd, the impossible, the irrational, illogical, emotional world of SKY

In an attempt to resurrect my writing skills, if there were any to begin with, I have decided to write about a momentous topic in my life. And so it shall begin; where to start?

Chapter 1: Cyber Space 101

The year must be close to 2000. Y2k was coming, computers needed to be patched, people were forcasting disastors, end of the world. Yet, with much commotion, we continued into the 21th century without much concern. I had completed my first year of college at Drexel University. We have a co-op program at Drexel, which is why my stay there was five years, instead of the normal four years. Co-operative education they called it. This was basically an internship, only difference being was that it required by the school, and the students got paid.
This was a great opportunity for students, or so it should have been.

As the co-op cycle started for me, I was responsible for submitting applications along with resumes to find myself a job. The school already had established connections to many companies that the students could find jobs from. However, even with these connections and aid from the school, it was difficult for me to find my first co op job. Reaons for this ranged from the employers first choosing the upper classman who already had co op expereince and the lack of IT/CS jobs that were available during that time. I've always found it ironic that the whole reason I grudgingly stuck out with Computer Science as my major was so that I could be ensured an easy time picking up a job upon graduation. The opposite held true. When I first started at Drexel, the CS/IT market was blooming, little did I expect the industry to show such a huge decline just within a year.

I had little luck finding a Co Op job through the school; they gave the students three rounds, where the stupidents submitted applications and the employers picked out some of these students for interviews. I recall having one interview at the third round, but I did not get that job. One of the creeds I lived by during that time was simply, "something will just turn out, somehow." As luck would have it, something did come up. On my way back home from the university, finding out that I did not get the job, I met a father of a high school friend on the train.

Dr. Preti, was a scientist who worked for a non-profit organization very close from my campus. I explained to him my situation with co op and he gave me his business card asking me to call him tommorow. Apparently, the person who managed IT over at this work was looking for some extra help, so I acquired a job for my co op.

The first year of my college, I experienced many things, as any bright eyed, bushy tailed youth would. Some were postive, some were negative. Before I started college, I did not have internet access, nor did I care too much for the internet. It wasn't till I moved into the dorms, I discovered the internet and its full potential.

First, it started with games. My affinity towards video games carried me into the world of on-line video games such as StarCraft and Quake2.

Lets continue this later....
